Kuki Gallman

in the vein of awesome women living in Africa, I just finished reading " I dreamed of Africa" by Kuki Gallman. They made a movie of her life that did the trick at 16, but her poems and her writing is a million times more amazing. her story is beautiful and hearbreaking.

Mirella Ricciardi

http://www.mirellaricciardi.com/

I was given Mirella Ricciardi's book "African Visions" when I was about 15, and obsessed with everything African..Her photographs carry the warmth and vibrancy of life that I associate with my own experiences on the continent and her life as a woman photographer in the late sixties and early seventies remain a symbol of independence and empowerment to me.
