TRYN' TO LIVE

Tryn to Live from sammy rawal on Vimeo.

The crazy talented Sammy Rawal directed this video for JUSTIS of DoRight Records. The Justis/Sammy collaboration is long overdue. Roommates in College and long time friends, it is so nice to see two talents unite. Justis has been on the Canadian Hip Hop scene for a while now, making moves, and Sammy has been doing the same, directing videos, photo shoots and killing it in graphic design. I also had the pleasure of doing the illustration for the video, which lends an 80's keith haring vibe that Sammy was going for. Sammy Rawal is one half of our collective TOP CINQ, which I promise you'll being seeing and hearing alot more of in the future.

Grizzly Bear

Sam Weber

Sam Weber's work always blows me away. Billowing soft shapes balanced by hard lines. beautiful expression, explosive colour and this otherworldly feeling that is perfect for book design. I first saw Sam Weber's illustration for this season's Soul Pepper theatre advertisements around Toronto and was so inspired by his aesthetic. Check out his website for more.

I wish all floats were like this.

"Project: Sky Walkers // Client: Toyota Scion // Project Overview: In 2006, FriendsWithYou opened Art Basel Miami with an event of epic proportions comparable to the Macy’s Day Parade. Toyota Scion commissioned FWY to curate and produce Skywalkers, inflatable procession celebrating the Earth as the newest member of the universal community. Skywalkers featured 18 giant blimps designed by FWY and various artists and included over 300 volunteers, a high school marching band, full event staff, and thousands of attendees. The parade illuminated the skies of Miami’s South Beach, which gained international attention and made the covers of the New York Times online, The Art Newspaper, and The Miami Herald among other publications. Skywalkers represents the magnitude and magic that only FriendsWithYou events can bring to life."

Carson Ellis

Carson Ellis' illustrations make me feel like I did when I first read "The Hockey Sweater". They are nostalgic and smart and their beauty is in the details.

My neighborhood was perfect this morning. On my way to go swimming at the community centre pool I saw a baby husky on a walk and a bald woman in a bathrobe scolding a cat. And it was sunny. After swimming on the way home, I took pictures, got a coffee and found an old Andy Warhol book at a used bookstore.
